F-16 M61 Vulcan Housing
SolidWorks was used in combination with a FARO arm (manual CMM) to recreate the necessary mounting features and cutouts required to make it a drop in replacement housing. A prototype was printed in two parts on a large FDM printer, using the FARO arm to align the two pieces, they were bonded together. After a fitment check on real hardware, a second prototype was developed and printed that addressed some interference problems. Once the second porotype had been verified by fit check, the design data was given to the customer.
My Role: Project owner, preformed all work stated above.
Customer requested a non-operating drop in replacement housing for the M61 Vulcan cannon on the F-16. The replacement housing maintained the weight and balance of the aircraft while disabling the cannon due to ATF restrictions.
